The Adair County School District is a rural school district located in south central Kentucky, with an enrollment of approximately 2600 students. The population of Adair County is just over 18,000 and the county seat is Columbia, KY. The district is comprised of four schools on one campus-Adair County High School (9-12), Adair County Middle School (6-8) , Adair County Elementary School (3-5), and Adair County Primary Center (K-2). Preschool students attend a separate preschool center housed inside Adair County Primary School.
There is a state funded juvenile detention center, Adair Youth Development Center, along with some residential, therapeutic facilities in the district.
The district's student population is predominantly Caucasian, with minorities representing about 11% of the population; 68% of the students are economically disadvantaged.
There are about equal numbers of males and females attending school in Adair County. The average spending per pupil per year is $10,297; average daily attendance is 94.7%. The district's Transition to Adult Life (where students are after PK-12 education) show 73% successfully transition to college, 66% to the work force (some working and attending college), 4% enter the military, 11% are engaged in vocational/technical training, and 17% are unsuccessful. The most recent graduation rate was 99.4%, the highest percentage in many years. |
